What is Meditation?

Meditation is one of the most positively transformative things you can learn in your life.  Every year more and more scientific studies show that learning to meditate and practicing consistently can lead to dramatic improvements in mental and physical health.

Here is one of many personal examples of positive abilities I gained from practicing meditation consistently: One day when new in graduate school I went to the library to study, and I was stunned to notice that my efficiency had increased remarkably; I was able to sit for 5 hours straight and absorb everything I read.  This had never happened before. But the next time I went to study, my efficiency dropped by 100% - in 4 hours I barely read 4 or 5 pages, if even that.  I was stunned.  What happened?  Then I suddenly realized: I had meditated the other day before the superstar study session.  This evidence really fuelled my enthusiasm to meditate more frequently.  And thus my graduate school experience was much less stressful and much more inspiring than it could've been.

How it works:

Meditation is quite simple - it involves sitting in silence and observing the mind, and practicing various tools to sharpen one’s focus and awareness of the present moment.  It is essential, however, to practice consistently.  Focusing on the breath is quite a useful anchor since there are usually no emotional issues attached to it.  Eventually, with consistent practice one can attain a quieter mind.  I know this from actual experience, not as a concept.

You have already meditated many times, perhaps without knowing it - it is that comfortable state you have been in when listening to soothing music, when being in the ZONE when playing sports, when cooking a wholesome meal, when gardening, etc.  However, when you learn to meditate you can summon this calmness at any time, without depending on specific phenomenon to occur.

Meditation teaching location:

Meditation/Yoga Teacher on Tuesdays at 15:30 til 16:45 at YogaCentralen, Allégade 25A • DK-2000 Frederiksberg.

NEW - Starting December guiding meditation twice a week (Mondays at 12, Tuesdays at 11:15) at QuietZone in Old Copenhagen.

Private Meditation Classes

  • Price: Private classes 500kr for 1 ½ hours. Group prices determined by number of participants.
  • Place: Location upon agreement.
  • Frequency: Lessons are once or twice a week, but student should practice daily.
  • Payment: Due at the end of session, or upon agreement.
